Mike Super opens Ellen’s “Magic Week” by making her appear

As much as we dump on America’s Got Talent for treating magic badly, we give mad props to people who get it right. Ellen DeGeneres is one of those people: In the past, her “Magic Week” has featured some pretty great performers, from Justin Kredible to Shawn Farquhar.

This week, Mike Super kicks it off. The winner of the last decent show NBC had on magic, “Phenomenon,” is the first magician to make Ellen appear on stage during the show. Ellen’s website doesn’t say what other magicians are coming as part of Magic Week, but the opening effect was pretty slick and, like we said, Ellen has a great reputation. Enjoy:

Jeremy Bennett
Another pro has joined the ranks of Team Ellusionist. Jeremy Bennett, of St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada, has a long history of studying and performing magic and appearing on TV. His expertise and experience stretches pretty far — he’s done street magic specials and is producing his own TV series dedicated to investigating the supernatural. You’re going to love what he has to say. In fact, we’ll let you read what he has to say right now:

Hey guys! This is my first blog here on Ellusionist. It’s really cool to be working with the E team and I look very forward to interacting with you guys! Over the years I gotten to know the Ellusionist team and very quickly came to appreciate their style and care they put into magic!

A quick few words about me: I am the author of “The Power of the Mind” (Flanker Press, 2010), a keynote speaker specializing in “the strength of the mind” and, of course, a magician. I am currently on the beginning of a small tour, called “Magic Meets Funny!” with comedian Trent McClellan. I just got back from a long rehearsal for a show I have tomorrow night. The show is coming together very nicely.

For some more info on what I do you can have a look at my website: www.jeremybennett.ca. I also have many videos on YouTube. Looking very forward to getting to know you guys!

Invisible Deck app re-released for Droid, earns highest rating for magic app from Apple users

Invisible Deck app re-released for Droid, earns highest rating for magic app from Apple usersEllusionist’s Invisible Deck app has been re-released for Droid, and already it has earned a rave review from a Droid user. Kyle Leishear, a writer for the Philadelphia Examiner.com, praised the app for its authenticity to the original trick and called it “a dream come true”:
“This is a trick that translates seamlessly into the digital realm for the performer to now pull out at anytime. A lot of time when I perform magic with a few decks, I often get the ‘oh those decks are rigged’ … I can now pull out my cell phone and do the Invisible Deck trick to them on a cell phone and it still translates just as well.”
He’s not alone. We’ve written about reviews of this app before. The biggest testament, however, comes from the ratings of App Store customers. Invisible Deck is currently the only magic app to score a 4.5 rating.
When you see it in action, you’ll love how this works. You can stick with the regular effect, but we imagine your brain cells are already lighting up with ideas of how to customize it. Apple users: Check it out at the App Store. Droid users: Go to the Droid Market on your device and search “Invisible Deck.”

Gold Arcanes, BabyKat and a blade? We’re in.

Gold Arcanes, BabyKat and a blade? Were in.
Girl did it again. Ekaterina Dobrokhotova, one of our favorite magicians and flourishers to watch, worked her magic with a deck of Gold Arcanes. Yes, that is a freaking butterfly knife. We’re not entirely sure that she didn’t manipulate those cards directly over an ocean, but we trust her to keep the cards safe.

In case you forgot, she blew our minds once before with the white and black Arcanes.her Facebook page to see what she does with the Golds. Check out

Eric Ross’ has a new conspiracy theory: Perform a color change underneath a wrapper

Eric Ross has a new conspiracy theory: Perform a color change underneath a wrapper
Y’all know us. We can spout some adjectives and adverbs like nobody’s business should the vibe hit us.
But there aren’t any words to describe Eric Ross’ latest effect, Conspiracy. Check out the trailer:

The word “visual” is so overused these days, but Ross has created an up-front, visual color change that is easy to adapt into your existing routines. Even if it’s not a card routine: Conspiracy can be used with anything that can fit under the cellophane wrapper of a deck of cards. Keys, business cards, movie ticket stubs, pictures*, credit cards, written messages**, coins, money, tenebrio*** or anything else you can think of.

When we first saw this, we were swept away. Took us a few repeat viewings before we could get back to work, frankly. Ross will get the gears in your head grinding when you see how easy this is. From the setup to the actual performance, they never see what’s coming. Beautiful stuff. Conspiracy is available now for $14.95.

*By “pictures,” we mean the old-fashioned kind that are printed on photographic paper, not the pictures inside your cell phone.
**By “written messages,” we mean something scrawled on a piece of paper, not that message of your undying love for some girl sprayed on an overpass.
***By “tenebrio,” we mean… eh, forget it. This joke is getting old.
